Waay better than Jello, and much more interesting than a typical margarita. This is basically just Jello made with margarita instead of water ... and you can pick them up and pop them into your mouth!
- 1 4-serving package Jello
- 3 - 4 oz water
- 8 oz margarita
- Set aside the molds you will be pouring the Jello mixture into. Get creative - regular ice cube trays or sample cups are easiest. Elaborate shapes and small molds will give higher failure rates (where they mangle & look ugly).
- You will also want a baking dish or bowl to put hot water in for getting the shots out of the molds.
- It is also easiest to mix this in a microwave safe bowl.
- For each batch (i.e., package of Jello), microwave 3 oz water until boiling. Then dump in 1 package of Jello and stir with a dull knife until blended. If you have trouble getting the Jello to fully dissolve, microwave for
- seconds and stir some more.
- Place the bowl in refrigerator for 20 to 30 minutes just to cool down a bit. Then stir in the margarita to blend and pour into the molds.
- Chill in the refrigerator until fully jelled, about 1 to 2 hours, depending on the molds you are using.
- To unmold, pour boiling water in a baking dish or bowl. Then dip the bottom of each mold in the water for about 5 to 10 seconds, just enough to start melting the very outside. Slide a small sharp knife
- in around the sides to let a bit of air in - there will tend to be a vacuum that can make it hard to get the Jello shot out otherwise.
- Invert the mold onto a plate to get the Jello shots out. I used several plates - when using an ice cube tray, often only a few would come out. So I'd slide them onto a different plate and continue inverting the others onto the first plate.
Variation:
Orange Margarita Jello Shot slices:
- Use about 2 oranges per package of Jello.
- Slice each orange in half, then scoop out pulp.
- Pour the Jello mixture into each half and chill until jelled.
- Slice each orange half into 4 slices, arrange on a plate and serve.
