This guacamole has an amazing combination of flavors – tangy, spicy, robust. And the black beans add a whole new dimension that takes this out of the realm of traditional guacamole.
I served this at the WordPress Developers Meetup – it was a real hit. Next time, looks like I’ll have to make a quadruple batch. I made it with a medium hot green chile, though I think it would be good with mild or hot chiles also – it’s just a matter of your preference.
Black Bean Guacamole

An easy yet fabulously flavorful guacamole that is a bit out of the mainstream with the black beans.

Ingredients
- 4 large ripe avocados, seeded peeled, and diced
- 1 cup diced tomato (about 2 medium or 1 large)
- ¼ cup diced green chile, medium hot or hot
- 6 green onions, finely chopped
- ¼ cup fresh squeezed lime juice (about 2 limes)
- ¼ tsp ground cumin
- 1 cup canned black beans, drained and rinsed
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Lightly mash the avocado with a potato masher in a large bowl.
- Stir in the tomatoes, green chiles, onions, lime juice, and cumin.
- Gently stir in the black beans and add salt and pepper to taste. Add more green chiles if more heat is desired.
- Serve with tortilla chips.
