Chipotle Crab Dip is a perfect addition to any party or Sunday brunch. It’s spicy, rich, and elegant. But it’s also incredibly easy to make. Serve it with bread, crackers, tortilla chips, whatever.
You can make it with any chipotle salsa – I have made it with 505 Honey Chipotle Salsa and Safeway Chipotle Salsa, both very good. It should be good with any chipotle salsa.
I divided the batch in two, making half with Mild Select New Mexico chiles and half with Hot. Both work well, as you really control the heat with the green chiles. Some of my friends would definitely go for the hot. When it comes to parties, I’m a big proponent of taking 2 bowls – one hot and one mild, with labels. That way you can satisfy everyone.

Author: Anita Edge
Recipe type: Appetizer
Serves: 12
Ingredients
- ⅔ cup 505 Chipotle Honey Salsa
- (or Safeway Chipotle Salsa, or chipotle salsa of your choice)
- ⅓ cup milk
- 3 8-oz packages of cream cheese, cubed
- 16 oz imitation crabmeat, flake style
- 1 cup thinly sliced green onions
- ½ cup diced green chiles (either hot or mild will do, depending on desired heat level)
Instructions
- Stir milk and salsa together, then pour into a crockpot coated with nonstick cooking spray.
- Stir in cream cheese, crab, onions, and chiles.
- Cover and cook on low for 3 hours, stirring every 30 minutes. Add additional chiles if you wish to adjust heat level.
- Serve with French bread, crackers, or tortilla chips.
Notes
No crockpot? You can simmer this, covered, over a double boiler. Or you can microwave on a low power level, let it sit for a half hour, then microwave again just to heat it up enough to serve.
The key is to use low heat with this - you don't want it to scorch or boil, which will cause ingredients to separate rather than blend.
