Christmas Chutney

This is one of my favorite recipes! Always gets rave reviews and it’s incredibly simple. This is a wonderful addition to the party appetizers.  This page is a guide to making this to give out as a gift to all your friends and family.

Give Christmas Chutney as a gift at Christmas: Why? This is elegant, gorgeous (a beautiful green with red berries in it), and you can make gallons of it with less than 15 minutes of preparation time.

How much to make? 1 batch makes about 3 cups. I made a quadruple batch yesterday in my 3 quart crock pot. It went right up to the very, very top. To produce a dozen 16 oz jars, you would make 8 batches.

Type of chile to use:

I use mainly Big Jims (medium hot). It is good to have some heat with this recipe. I’ve made several batches with Mosco’s (very hot) and I typically make 1 or 2 batches with Dynamites for my friends who think it’s never hot enough. You can always blend hot and mild to taste. If you only have mild, you can add finely minced jalapeno or serrano chiles.

 Christmas Chutney

2 cups diced green chiles
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup cider vinegar
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 cup diced onion
1 cup dried cranberries (Craisins)

Instructions:

Put first 5 ingredients in crock pot & cook on low for 4 hours.  For the last half hour (at 3:30), blend in cranberries.

Serve over a 8 oz wedge of baked brie with crackers on the side.
